Rear differential problems

OK i have an 09 prowler with the TURF SAVER rear i guess.. this thing is a piece of crap... it unlocks jerks makes noise in slow turns. i want to put a regular differential in it. what do i need to do this, part numbers would be nice and also i have read somewhere that i need to change axles as well (any truth to this)??

Did anyone ever get back to you on the rearend. I have an 09 xtx 700 also. It has 89 miles on it. I thought I would get used to it and I absolutely dont like being jerked around either. I am looking for options.

Smile Finally and answer

I spoke with Kent who works for Arcticat. I found out from him that you will need a new Ring Gear set Part 1402-302 priced at 176.95, Two new rear axles Part 1436-411 at 250.00 a peice and two new axle seals. This will remove the limited slip and make the axle locked all the time.

I put a spool type back in mine out of an 09 700 xt paid $150 plus shipping from a place online. I got new inside axle ends off of a 650 arctic cat as the inside ends are the same. $100 each all on all I had about $400 in it

Anyone try taking the limited slip one apart and make it positrac? Does the one side unscrew or is it pressed in? I ground off the welds and it won't move.

sorry it has taken me so long i've been busy, to answer the above yes you can take it apart but its a waste of time mine was tig welded and still broke.

As for part numbers
The rear gear i used came from Babbitts atv parts. Arctic cat part number is 1402-0432 that is the part number used on babbitts website. it fits an 09 prowler XT. It is 36 tooth just like the limited slip unit.i dropped mine right in no shimming required. you may have to shim yours!!!!
The axle ends you will need can be found at www.atvaxlesandmore.com part # is CVJ656 you will need to take your inner joints off of your stock CV shafts and replace with the above part number..

Hope this helps everyone. Mine is working great the jerking is gone and i am now considering keeping this machine around. The only downfall is that it turns hard but i would rather it turn hard than jerk like it was before

Prowler rear diff

I am trying to set up the rear differential in my 2009 prowler like you did but cant find the parts. the parts dept says if it isnt a valid stock arctic cat part number they cant help me and these part numbers done make sense to them. Has somethhing new came up to improve these rear diffs from jerking my head off on acceleration?
