I was pulling my trail mower when my transmission "popped" and the engine died. It will restart but when you put it in gear it will lurch forward and die. Any ideas? I bought it used in 2010 and have had no problems except a tire (My fault). It has been well maintained but worked hard.

Maybe a bevel gear let go but I would pull the belt cover off and start the engine and look at the clutches DONT DRIVE IT just at idle. Maybe remove belt and start it too.

Transmission could be toasted. I agree winched it on the trailer so that you can bring it to the shop.
