New to the site. Use my 08 650 H1 for hunting and play. Has anyone ever had a starting problem. My H1 will sometines not turn over after having been turned off for a short period of time. The battery has been replaced. The dealer wants to tighten the valves to reduce compression at the top of the stroke. He is reluctant to replace the starter. His fix seems to me will reduce performance. Any one else experienced this. Also any ideas as where to buy a repair manual-(not a CD). Thanks. Paul

howie

i have a 650 hi prowler and i had difficulty starting it, and i had to change the starter because the seal was weak around the starter housing and letting oil seep into the starter, drowning it out,and it got grounded and felt like the starter was dragging. i took the starter apart and it was full of oil. maybe this is your problem, i just put a new starter on and it is doing fine. thanks ,,,,,howie from ky. ps. i also replaced the battery before checking for amperage.

valves

getting the valves done is very important. Trust them on this...anything with over 100hrs should get them done it can only improve performance. do not know your model but some have a decompression that works off of the valve train to help it start. this is probably what they are refering to.:)

Mine does it

I was looking on here for that same reason. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the battery and starter but it didn't help. Mine seems to only do it after it is warm after running for a while. I guess I'll have to take it in again.

Your dealers fix may be what you need. To work your decompressor has to hold the exhaust valve open a bit while you are cranking over the engine. If the exhaust valve gap is set open too much the decompressor wont work.
