I have a AC 550 2010.I put the hard top kit with stereo and 4 speakers.I never had any battery trouble until this winter running a little heater out of my 12 volt outlet on the dash. After running the heater a while my panel said volt and battery almost died.I want to add some more speakers and a couple of lights on top. What do i need to do to fix the battery problem. What about a boat battery or car battery.

Thanks

The stock batteries don't hold up. Your best bet is a new AGM battery. The stock Arctic Cat ones and the upgraded AGM battery that the dealer would give you is made by YUASA. It's 310CCA and is a big improvement.
www.batterymart.com has these batteries at a fraction of the cost of the dealer.

I run Odyssey PC680's in my atv's. There is enough power there do do whatever you need. Keeping your battery on a battery tender when not in use will also help out.

I have the same problem. I bought a Odyssey PC680 with 680 CCA's and I still have problems. I think I am gonna look into just buying an Optima yellow top and be done with it. Really pi=#es me off when my prowler won't start. If I put the charger on it for 5 minutes it starts right up, and if it is running for a while and I turn it off, wait for about 5 minutes and it won't start. If I were you I wouldn't waste my money on another small battery. One question I do have for you pros out there.....Can I fry my starter with an Optima battery?? It has 650 CCA just like the one I have.

I have a winch and thats it, so I really don't know what is killing the battery. I even un-hooked the winch with no change.

Battery

I do not run all the stuff that you guys put on the battery. I had trouble with voltage. I connected a small solar panel to the battery and have not had a starting problem. It has only been connected for a month but no problems turning over in this cold weather.

I bought my Optima yellow top yesterday. I am gonna do some fabbing and get a good holder welded up. I will let you guys know how it turns out. I did find the best price at Sams Club, $162. Autozone wanted $219 for the same one. Couldn't find anything cheaper than $199 on the internet. These are not that big for the power the have. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope I don't fry anything, use the ol' trial and error method.

Not saying that anyone is wrong in there approach to this obvious problem, and what everyone runs on there rig is there own business. When I bought mine, the dealer guy told me that AC should have put dual batteries as they are a cronic problem, and in the same breath said that the charging system is pretty crappy, and just puts out enough power to keep the unit running. So I sort of wonder how having 2 batteries helps that. He said to make sure I throw a trickle charger on it once a month just to keep it topped up, and it sort of sounds like that guys who do that cease to have issues. 2 cents FWIW.

So much for my solar panel

Snow finally settled enough to take the Prowler and dogs out to run some rabbits. The problem of failing to turn over the engine after shutting down has returned. My meter which plugs into the lighter reads 12.3 when not running and 15.2 when running. Guess I better look into the battery size.

I think my battery needs to be replaced on my outlander and was wondering if anyone has replaced the stock batt with a lithium batt? Or is it best to buy the same original batt?
