Hello from
Bethany NY Volunteer Fire Department,

We are a very small Volunteer Fire Department in Bethany NY. Our area covers a rural town of only 650 households thats directly between Buffalo & Rochester NY.
We have pretty much nothing out here as far as stores / gas stations / buisnesses - it's all about farming and cows around here.

We try our best to do fundraisers to help support our volunteer fire deparment but as in most departments, the manpower is slim and money is tight.
This year we (myself) kind of put our necks out on the line and purchased a new 2008 Arctic Cat Prowler 650XT UTV & Triton GU10 Trailer to go with it. We are raffling this package off November 8th 2009.

You can see our machine on our website ..
www.bethanyvfd.comhttp://www.bethanyvfd.com

Tickets are only $6 a piece or $20 for four tickets.

Last year we only sold 2,100 tickets but we are trying to double that for this year.
You can purchase tickets for this raffle by sending us a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope).
Our website kind of explains all of that.

A little bit more about ourselves.
Like I said, we are out in the rural part of western NY. We only have around 650 households in our town. About 30 active Volunteers. I have 6 Firetrucks in our fleet with only two of them that are what you would call ''decent shape'' 2000 era and the others are from the 90's to the 80's era.
The money we bring in from these raffles helps us buy and replace equipment like the 70's era airpacks / the 20 yr old turnout gear (firecoats) / or help pay for training.

I love being a Volunteer Fireman but it takes a specail kind of nutjob to take on this type of work.
I could be mowing the lawn today and get a ''call'' on the pager for help / rush to the scene only to have a family of four there dead in their minivan / end up cleaning up the scene for 11 hours / and then try to go back to my life - getting that image out of my mind.
Thats a true story and my very first call that I responded to.

but thank you for looking at our raffle and if you don't take a chance on ours - then maybe go down to your local dept and give them a donation - or better yet see if you could give them a hand. They are not all calls like that. Depts can use your help in many other ways. Like posting on websites for help - lol.

Thank you Admin for letting us post this (hopefully I put it in the correct area).

Thanks guys,
sorry for the delay. Kind of busy around here with calls and festivals.

Yes I sent you the information SteveP in the email you sent me.
Thank you.

krbdog - you can look on our site www.bethanyvfd.com on how to get tickets.
The easiest way is to send a check or money order - $6 for one ticket or $20 for four tickets
Make it out to in care of Bethany Fire Dept
and include a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope)
Attn: 4 Wheeler
Bethany Fire Dept
PO box 68

East Bethany, NY 14054

I will then send you back your ticket stubs.

Again, thank you so much for your support and good luck in the raffle.

Thanks guys for the support.

Sorry we don't have a ''cash option'' vs getting the UTV
or delivery.
Although a trip to California sounds like fun.
Hmmm... charge a dollar a mile - lol

I will help anyway I can in the shipping process.

If someone from out of state wins the raffle. I think we could work something out. I could store it for awhile (within reason) for no charge.

You could always sell it too.
About $11,000 for the UTV and $1,500 for the trailer.

Dump it for a quick $5,000 on this site

or donate it back to the Fire dept for a hefty write off ??

We actually cover one county park in our district. Established in 1915 and is recognized as the first County Forest in New York State. Residents can enjoy 430 acres of forest and rolling hills, which includes over 17 miles of trails, five ponds, a variety of wildlife, trees and woodland plants.
Sadly we don't have the funds to purchase a unit like this for our dept, to help in servicing this area. We usually have to get in there as far as we can with our grass truck (1994 chevy pickup truck) and then proceeed on foot with the stokes basket or the old wooden toboggin. We do get an ocasional call for help there - broken ankle from a fall / broken leg from a horse kicking a guy / cross country skiing injuries.

I have had a few people write out tickets in our depts name, so that we might finally get a machine suited more towards this area that we are lacking in.
My neighbor and I are even taking an old delivery truck and turning that into a Fire Police unit, so that we can block the roads around here. Plus we are putting a boat inside for water rescue.
I know it sounds like ''Hicksville'' out here but we do have a great bunch of people in our dept and actually serve our residents better than the local paid guys. We are just able to use what we have - with the funds that we are provided with.
When your Fire budget is around $100,000 a yr and a new Fire truck costs around $250,000 / Ambulance $120,000 / a Firemans coat & pants are $2,000 a set and replaced every 7 yrs / air packs are in the thousands for each.
They want $3,000 for the 'slide in option' to equip a UTV to haul people on or the water tank option for grass fire fighting with the UTV.
plus the $5,000 for the tracks system on the UTV.
One dept here paid $27,000 for a complete unit with an enclosed trailer.

Sorry getting off the rant.

but thanks again for your help.
and please vist your local Fire dept and see what you can do for them.
