Hello from
Bethany NY Volunteer Fire Department,
We are a very small Volunteer Fire Department in Bethany NY. Our area covers a rural town of only 650 households thats directly between Buffalo & Rochester NY.
We have pretty much nothing out here as far as stores / gas stations / buisnesses - it's all about farming and cows around here.
We try our best to do fundraisers to help support our volunteer fire deparment but as in most departments, the manpower is slim and money is tight.
This year we (myself) kind of put our necks out on the line and purchased a new 2008 Arctic Cat Prowler 650XT UTV & Triton GU10 Trailer to go with it. We are raffling this package off November 8th 2009.
You can see our machine on our website ..
www.bethanyvfd.comhttp://www.bethanyvfd.com
Tickets are only $6 a piece or $20 for four tickets.
Last year we only sold 2,100 tickets but we are trying to double that for this year.
You can purchase tickets for this raffle by sending us a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope).
Our website kind of explains all of that.
A little bit more about ourselves.
Like I said, we are out in the rural part of western NY. We only have around 650 households in our town. About 30 active Volunteers. I have 6 Firetrucks in our fleet with only two of them that are what you would call ''decent shape'' 2000 era and the others are from the 90's to the 80's era.
The money we bring in from these raffles helps us buy and replace equipment like the 70's era airpacks / the 20 yr old turnout gear (firecoats) / or help pay for training.
I love being a Volunteer Fireman but it takes a specail kind of nutjob to take on this type of work.
I could be mowing the lawn today and get a ''call'' on the pager for help / rush to the scene only to have a family of four there dead in their minivan / end up cleaning up the scene for 11 hours / and then try to go back to my life - getting that image out of my mind.
Thats a true story and my very first call that I responded to.
but thank you for looking at our raffle and if you don't take a chance on ours - then maybe go down to your local dept and give them a donation - or better yet see if you could give them a hand. They are not all calls like that. Depts can use your help in many other ways. Like posting on websites for help - lol.
Thank you Admin for letting us post this (hopefully I put it in the correct area).
