May 09 Issue Side X Side Mag UTV Test

Here's a question for Jon Crowley, Doug Dixon, Rick Wallace and the others involved with the latest issue of Side X Side Action... In the testing of the UTV's, the Prowler was the best of each performance catagory except one and in that one it was second. Why they did the magazine rate the Prowler so low then. It seems the others got higher stars than the Prowler even though the XTZ beat them. Ie: The XTZ beat the Teryx in the slalom, braking, loaded and unloaded speed tests, but the Teryx got more stars in the Handling, Steering and Suspension areas. Seems to me that the XTZ should've gotten the highest ratings in those areas.
The Prowler XTZ won the loaded and unloaded speed contests, had the fastest slalom time, won the hill climb speed and time test, was second in the braking test, had the shortest loaded stopping distance... what gives...
It sounds to me like Side X Side just doesn't like Arctic Cat very much or AC isn't spending enough advertising dollars in the mag....
Jon, I sure hope you weren't one of the naysayers in the test, I see that you did like the speed and that it was a fun machine...

well that makes sense, the Prowler steering suck's and and it could use some help in the suspension department they have a after market rear spring that will help the overall feel. it sounds like the review was probably accurate

If the steering sucks and the rear suspension is that bad, why did the XTZ win the slalom and receive good reviews for it's bump and rough stuff handling....
you got me Darryl it sounds like you like your steering on your XTZ that's fine I'm telling you mine suck's and I don't like it it's so bad my wife will not drive it, she had a 06 Rhino and loved to drive it, everyone I've let drive mine have also said that steering was a little hard and seemed to have a flat spot center I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way
i absolutely hated my steering before i shot spray silicone on the universal joints......it honestly was much worse than when i drive in diff lock.....horrible!!!!

as i drive it more, either i'm getting used to it or it's loosening up a great deal more.....feels like power steering.....no joke....
I'm going to take it apart a look at what you guys were talking about, then its off to the dealer again thank's
lube the universal joint under the dash and you will love your cat and the wife will love it too. mine was horrible until I added a little lube now it drives nice.
The steering is definitely less than stellar...it needs a Unisteer!

Not sure how it won the slalom either. After driving both back to back I would have given the Teryx higher marks. One thing is for sure though, the Prowler is a rocket ship!
my prowler with the seats lowered 4" kicks ass when the axle is in the diff
Ok Daryl,

I agree with you. I went back and read my SxS action issues and they are full on Biased. It started with their 'teryx race car build" then progressed to the " fox shocks" and "cst suspension" articles which oddly just happen to be on the teryx...And the teryx review that Jon did in bouldes phx... they are full on sucking on Kawa's d**k.....Now i have worked in media before and i know how "trade" works but SxS action is full blown biased. So i am ending my buying of their magazine. its too bad because the industry needs coverage. So "mlm" to their opinions and mag...Split

It sux that they "SxS" and other mags rely so heavily on advertizing dollars, that they "feel the need" to lean towards whomever spends the bux. it's partly our fault for not buying and/or cancelling subscriptions, we can also put a little blame on the internet..look how many newspapers have gone south.. I for one, can understand their dilema, even though I don't agree with it. Maybe one of the mags will chime in rather than ignoring your post. We know they have read it. :31:
hard steering

lube the universal joint under the dash and you will love your cat and the wife will love it too. mine was horrible until I added a little lube now it drives nice.
Also if you want easier steering don't torque steering wheel to 25 LBS has specified. Had my steering wheel off to get it lined up and when I re-torqued it to 25 LBS was very had to turn had to take some torque off now steers a lot easier but now I will also lubricate the universal joints under the dash.
