'09 550. The winch switch is mounted on the center console right above the shift lever. Kept hitting it with my elbow, cold beer, or other essentials. The cable would get so tight is was ruining the swedge socket.
Solution - For others that MAY be as dumb as I am, leave the winch engage switch mounted on the winch itself in the "disengaged" position.

I simply took a big enough rubber washer and cut it in half placing one half under each side of switch. The switch won't move unless you remove the half washers.

I also leave the winch unlocked until I need it because when you need it you unlock it anyway to pull the cable out..

I installed a power switch next to my winch switch. It's one of those toggles with a red safety cover. Now all I have to do is flip the cover and arm the winch. All you have to do is pull the center wire off the winch swich run it to you toggle (on/off) switch then run a jumper from it back to the winch switch.

I used to leave the winch unlocked on my jeep untill it snaged a root in a mud hole. Luckally someone saw it as I came out of the hole. Imagin given it the gas for the next 75 feet. BANG!!!

I mounted mine on the roof over my head. No accidental bumping.

I also leave the winch unlocked until I need it because when you need it you unlock it anyway to pull the cable out..
